DAMASTEEL - Bluetongue

FORGED INTEGRAL

STAINLESS STEEL

LENGTH = 108mm

THICKNESS = 4mm with a heavy taper towards the tip.

WEIGHT = 140 grms

HANDLE MATERIALS = Black Micarta with Stainless Steel pins

This piece includes a few firsts for me. It’s the first stainless knife I've ever made (let alone Damasteel!), my first attempt at an heirloom-fit handle, and the first knife I've ever forged in Ireland!

The blade features a significant taper, meaning that despite the thickness of the spine at the bolster, the tip is extremely fine for delicate work. The grind is nearly full flat but with the slightest amount of convexity. The edge is  ground to zero at the edge before applying a micro bevel.

I chose to go with an heirloom fit on the handle, allowing me to etch the bolster and tang, revealing the beautiful pattern distortion as the upset Bluetongue-pattern Damasteel flows out from the forged bolster
